How to use the Nintendo Switch Pro-Controller on PC

We explain how to use the control of the Nintendo console on a computer.

Some time ago we saw how we could use the Dualshock 4 on PC. But what if my preferred command is another? What if my preferred command is the Nintendo Switch Pro-Controller? If you have asked yourself these questions and doubts about whether you can use it or not, we will give you the answer: yes you can and we will explain how!

Connecting the remote

Like the Dualshock, the Pro-Controller is supported natively by Windows 10, but the way to link it is not as simple as connecting a cable, this time we will need a Bluetooth adapter and a couple of intermediate steps. Once we connect our adapter, we must wait for the relevant drivers to be installed and, once finalized, go to this address from the search bar: Start -> Device Manager.

Once there, we will look for our Bluetooth adapter and press right click to choose update driver software. Once we have done this, we can access the Bluetooth devices panel and synchronize the command with our adapter using the synchronization button. When it detects it, we give it to 'Match' and voilĂ , we will have connected our Pro-Controller through DirectInput. It should be noted that the adapter will be paired with the command so that it will automatically recognize it when we connect it to our PC. In addition to this, it should be noted that the remote control cannot be charged while being used in this way, so be sure to charge it before using it to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Do you need configuration?

As we already informed in the special past about the DS4, through DirectInput the command is recognized natively by Windows 10. For that same reason, it can be configured for Steam (Parameters -> Command -> General command settings) in the same way as its equivalent to the Sony and Microsoft console, and it is even likely that many current games recognize it natively and we do not have to do anything. However, when this is not the case it will be necessary to remove the heavy artillery.

Using x360ce

Again, we will need drivers or third-party programs to make use of drivers with full compatibility. In this case, we will use x360ce, a program that allows us to map the buttons of our Pro-Controller to adapt it to each game. Its use is simple, we only need to download the program executable - depending on whether our system is x32 or x64 - and extract it in the folder of the game we want to map our controller. To access the local Steam files, from the library right click the game and enter Properties -> Local Files -> View local files.

Once there, we execute it and create a library file by clicking create once it has finished, we just have to select a configuration (the recommended one should not present problems in the vast majority of cases) after this we can reassign the buttons using the Record option of each button.

It is important to note that we will have to do this for each game that we want to use our controller and not enough with DirectInput. And so far this little guide. With this, we cover the two controls of the main consoles that do not have full compatibility with Windows 10. The Microsoft console, as many already commented in the previous special, does not involve any mystery and is fully compatible, so that only remains to choose your favorite control and enjoy your title library.
