Super Mario World: Miyamoto wanted Mario to ride a horse!

From that idea was born Yoshi, who also had the appearance of a crocodile.

The team responsible for the brilliant Super Mario World has shared details of the most interesting about the development of this legendary adventure 2D platforms due to its relaunch with the successful Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES, confirming among other curiosities that Shigeru Miyamoto wanted Mario riding on horseback and, following that idea, the beloved Yoshi was born.
"Shigeru Miyamoto said he wanted Mario to ride a horse!" Said veteran Takashi Tezuka. When we were working on Super Mario Bros. 3, he sketched Mario on horseback and hung it on the wall near his old desk.I used to look at him and think: I think he wants Mario to ride some animal ', continues the creative Japanese.

"When we started to develop Super Mario World, we were thinking about the concept of a land of dinosaurs, so I asked Hino to create a kind of reptile." Starting from this idea, Shigefumi Hino created a giant lizard species. "The first keyword was a horse, so I imagined something quite large, and I drew a creature that looked like a giant lizard," which Tezuka defines, again with laughter, as "a crocodile." As "it did not strike that suddenly a reptile appeared in the world of Mario, we talk again, and we thought that perhaps it should not resemble a crocodile," he added.

Finally, Tezuka presented a new sketch of Yoshi, and with Hino, it gave form to the creature that today we all know.
