REVIEW - Rayman Legends is one of the best platforms we have received in many years, that is no doubt. The passage of time also shows that the years pass well, in this case with an edition for Nintendo Switch that makes it shine again.
The arrival of Rayman Legends to Nintendo Switch is good news, even though its new features are smaller. The video game proved its extraordinary value three years ago with an exemplary platforms, loaded with levels, lots of variety, exquisite control, infinity of secrets and a truly hypnotic artistic section.
Rayman Legends: The Definitive Edition does not mean an important contribution to the game that appeared in 2013, but it does deserve the name "definitive" because it means the best platform in which to enjoy the video game. It is possible to combine the tactile functionality with the traditional handling, but is that in addition the screen of 6.2 inches in portable mode is big enough to allow to contemplate the wonderful graphics in all its splendor.
Obviously, it is not a release intended for those who tried it on another console, but it does mean a great opportunity for new users. What's more, we dare to say that it is a must if you like the platforming genre. Within this discipline, it fills an important gap, based on a gameplay that gives for 10-15 hours of play as a minimum. Maybe Ubisoft Montpellier could have taken advantage of to do a work of revitalization, with more options, but we can not complain about the result, because as adaptation it is sensational.
Legendary platform
At the time of its appearance, we said about Rayman Legends which was the best work of the designer Michel Ancel and his team in many years. We appreciate the fact that it involved a continuation focused on improving aspects such as duration and difficulty. With respect to Rayman Origins, the title added a better adjustment to this platformer, with musical phases and very imaginative final heads. The scores were around 90 in Metacritic, and sales - although timid at first - currently exceed 3 million units.Given the circumstances, it was obvious that Ubisoft's intention was to bet on this new machine. Not because of commercial interest, but because the artistic and playable style fits with the Nintendo philosophy to perfection. Also, what we see is not an adaptation done in any way, but is perfectly controlled, whether we use the Switch Pro Controller or the Joy-Con in portable mode. We did the test of returning to the version of PS4 / One and until we noticed a better answer in the console of the Great N.
In short, it is an absolute pleasure to play Rayman Legends on Nintendo Switch, either through the television (1080p) or in portable (720p) mode. In both cases, it is still spectacular, but what is more surprising is to see it directly on the console screen. We have highlighted it occasionally, but it is worth remembering that Switch handles perfectly the color theme and you contrast. Given that we are faced with such an extremely beautiful video game, the magnification of the result is tremendous.
Missing some novelties
What we do not like so much is that the novelties are minimal. They are limited to a couple of options. The first is that thanks to the touchscreen and gyros, the gameplay is fully integrated, so that is the richest experience of all. The second is that the mode of soccer (Kung Football) adds the option of organizing tournaments.But everything else was already. It is not something that throws everything to the fret, because the contents are of great quality, although it is certain that they lack novelties. But what I said ... The main adventure is long and varied. We continue to have a selection of levels from the previous title ("Back to Origins" mode) that is great. Then there are the daily challenges online, that will make you prank with users from all over the world. And of course, we have collectibles and the incentive that completes the levels with all the trophies. There is play for a while, especially if you want to complete it one hundred percent.
The best version?
For all this, Rayman Legends Definitive Edition is certainly the definitive edition, although it must be said that by the minimum. That's why we insist that it is especially suitable for users of Nintendo Switch who have not yet tested the original game. For them, it is the best option, especially if they are lovers of the platforming genre.
