The still somewhat rickety Switch catalog is taking shape that
until today was essentially a skeleton
made up of strong, solid and necessary bones such as Nintendo's games, but
around which a little bit more meat and muscle were
missed. One game that has just
added up to a particularly meaningful catalog area is Layers of Fear, the
remarkable Polish horror game from Bloober Team that flirts with the first
person walker but has the jump scare - the not-so-cheap scares – as well.
In this case what comes to the
hybrid Nintendo console is a Legacy edition of which it is not yet known exactly what
differences will have with the original of last year’s title. The game seemed to be somewhat lacking in mechanics,
but if one is captured by his story - that of a Victorian painter with a life
marked by fatality - and is stimulated by the type of softcore exploration he
proposes.
It is like one of those independent horror films where the script
could be summed up in a line, but the
true load of its value lies in the setting and the way of posing in front of
the viewer. (A recent example: It Comes at Night.)
In any case, it is a phenomenal
addition to the console even if it is an experience that benefits little from the
portable concept: the Switch catalog needs variety and packaging, and for the moment only Vaccine and Resident Evil
Revelations 1 and 2 are out of terror
genre.
This week Layers of Fear: Legacy will be available to play at the Tokyo Game Show opening Thursday, and by then we may already have an approximate release date, more data on possible new content compared to the original. We’ll see, how this game is shaping up on the console of Nintendo…
